Kombucha Mocktails to Help You Crush Dry January

From feasts and desserts to drinks and relaxation, holiday merry-making always takes its toll. But all things must come to an end, and the fun (but strenuous) weeks of the holiday season are finally behind us. Now is the time for recovery and resolutions. One of the most popular resolutions is to live a healthier lifestyle, and millions of people participate in a month-long alcohol abstinence known as Dry January.

After the indulgence of the holidays, an alcohol-free month is a great way to start the new year, but going cold turkey can be tough. Luckily, there are delicious alternatives that will make you forget all about alcohol. One beverage in particular is kombucha. With a tangy flavor, numerous health benefits, and endless versatility, it’s easy to see why Google searches for kombucha spike during January.

While kombucha is amazing on its own, it’s even better when you dress it up as a cocktail. Non-alcoholic kombucha cocktails have all the flavor but none of the nasty side effects that you’d typically get with alcohol. So, you can enjoy these mocktails without worrying about hangovers, empty calories, or impaired judgment.

MORscow Mule

It has a nice ring to it, no? The MORscow Mule is a non-alcoholic take on the classic cocktail served in a copper mug, but instead of gin/vodka, we substitute 6 ounces of our Mojito Kombucha. This gives your mocktail a refreshing, easy-to-drink flavor that will be impossible to put down.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup crushed ice

  • 6 oz Mojito Kombucha

  • ½ oz lime juice

  • Mint sprigs and lime wedge (for garnish)

Recipe:

  1. Add crushed ice, kombucha, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker.

  2. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds

  3. Pour into a copper mug and enjoy

Hazy Cactus MORgarita

Tequila who? Our take on this feisty classic removes the agave-based liquor in favor of MOR’s Hazy Cactus Kombucha. The substitution means that during dry January, you can enjoy your favorite cocktail on Taco Tuesday, and feel good doing it. Whether you have it on the rocks or frozen is up to you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ice

  • 6 oz Hazy Cactus Kombucha

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • 2 oz orange juice

Recipe (Frozen):

  1. Place ice, kombucha, lime juice, and orange juice in a blender

  2. Blend until slushy

  3. Serve immediately

Recipe (On the Rocks):

  1. Add ice, kombucha, lime juice, and orange juice to a cocktail shaker

  2. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds

  3. Pour into a cocktail glass and enjoy

Pineapple Peach Sunrise

Unleash the tropical vibes with MOR’s alcohol-free take on this classic cocktail. Made by combining equal parts of our Pineapple Peach Kombucha and orange juice, this mocktail gets its name from the splash of grenadine that sinks to the bottom and ignites the glass with color. And since it’s a mocktail, this sunrise is good any time of day.

Ingredients:

  • ½ teaspoon grenadine

  • 6 oz Pineapple Peach Kombucha

  • 6 oz orange juice

  • 1 maraschino cherry or pineapple chunk (for garnish)

Recipe:

  1. Mix kombucha and orange juice in Tom Collins glass

  2. Gently pour grenadine into the glass

  3. Garnish with your choice of fruit
